Plant Summary

The forest elder, Nuxia floribunda, is a small to medium-sized tree with a dense and rounded crown of glossy green leaves. It produces clusters of fragrant, cream-white flowers that attract bees, birds and other insects. The flowers are followed by small capsules that release numerous tiny seeds. Also known as the wild elder, it has various traditional uses as a medicine and a source of wood, honey and tannins. It grows well in moist, sunny to partly-shady areas, and is not invasive or frost-tolerant.
