Plant Summary

Athanasia dentata, known as the toothed-leaf athanasia, is a fast-growing, upright, densely leafy shrublet with green and golden foliage and bright golden yellow flowers. The leaves and stems of Athanasia are rich in bitter resins, which have been widely used by traditional healers for various ailments. The plant is easy to grow and prefers a sunny position, tolerating most soils, even poor, gravelly, and sandy soils. It can be propagated by seed or cuttings, and it makes an excellent water-wise garden subject, well-suited for fynbos and coastal gardens.
