Botanical name: Aloidendron dichotomum

The quiver tree, Aloidendron dichotomum, is a distinctive aloe native to arid regions of South Africa and Namibia. It has sharply forked branches and golden brown bark scales. Young flower buds can be eaten. This extremely hardy tree thrives in hot, dry conditions. It can be grown in gardens with good drainage or containers. Use loamy, sandy soil. Bone meal feeds the fleshy roots. Propagate from autumn-sown seeds or dried truncheons.
