Common names: fence aloe (English).
Botanical name: Aloiampelos tenuior

The fence aloe, Aloiampelos tenuior, is an undemanding aloe that forms large clumps and produces delicate yellow or red flowerheads over a long flowering period. It grows well in full sun and well-drained soil. This aloe is easy to propagate from cuttings. Traditionally the roots and leaves are used medicinally as a purgative and for treating tapeworms. Leaf infusions are also used as protective charms. Its long flowering season makes it a useful garden plant for rockeries, terraces, and mixed plantings. It can be encouraged to climb fences and needs some frost protection.
