Think beyond Ceylon and plastic infused tea bags when it comes to creating your teas. We have an array of local ‘tea’ plants that also offer a celebration of flavour and make wonderful gifts for the tea enthusiast.
We have made getting going with indigenous tea making easy with a recipe card and 3 of our favourite local tea herbs:
- Peppermint-scented pelargonium – This exquisite plant has so many uses; from enjoying in hanging planters, to using to make potpourris to adding flavour to baking. But one of our favourite ways to use her velvety leaves is in wonderfully refreshing hot or iced teas.
- Imphepho – a popular choice in dried flower arrangements, her soft leaves also make a lovely calming tea.
- Cancer bush – her leaves are fragrant and bitter, so less is more when it comes to this wonder plant. A weak tea is said to help ease a host of ailments including fever and flu. A little drank before meals is believed to aid digestion and appetite.
