Plant Summary

Buddleja saligna, also known as false olive, is a fast-growing evergreen tree that can reach up to 10 meters in height. It is native to South Africa and is widely distributed from the Western Cape through to Zimbabwe. The plant has long, narrow leaves that are dark green on the upper surface and whitish on the underside with raised venation. The flowers are tiny, creamy white, and have a lovely honey scent. The plant is used for traditional medicinal purposes, and the wood is fine-grained and used to make small pieces of furniture. Buddleja saligna is an excellent quick screen plant and makes a good clipped hedge. It is evergreen, frost hardy, and drought-resistant.
