Sweet wild garlic, Tulbaghia simmleri, is a charming evergreen perennial with sweetly fragrant, pink to mauve-pink flowers that resemble miniature daffodils. It is endemic to the northern Drakensberg of South Africa, where it grows on rocky ledges or in humid mountain forests. It is a lovely cut-flower and potplant, and can also be used as a substitute for Tulbaghia violacea or Tulbaghia alliacea, both known as wild garlic, in traditional medicine. It prefers a position in light or partial shade, and well-drained, composted soil. It can be propagated by seed or division.
