Tritonia deusta, also known as the ‘kalkoentjie’ (Afrikaans for ‘little turkey’), is a captivating bulbous plant native to the fynbos and renosterveld regions of the Western Cape. Its fiery orange blooms with a contrasting yellow center and occasional dark markings stand out against the natural landscape, attracting bees and other insects as pollinators. This member of the the iris family is primarily cultivated as an ornamental flower. Sun-loving and thriving in well-drained soils. During the dry summer months, watering requirements are minimal, making them a great choice for water-wise gardens.
