It is native to the arid regions of South Africa and Namibia, where it grows in the succulent karoo and renosterveld vegetation. It is a drought-tolerant plant that can add texture and colour to water-wise gardens. The leaves contain essential oils that are used in traditional medicine to treat various ailments, such as influenza, fever and kidney problems. Pteronia incana can be easily propagated by seed and prefers sandy loam to clay-rich soils in full sun.
