The stoep jacaranda, Plectranthus saccatus, is a soft, semi-succulent shrub with large, blue to lilac flowers that resemble those of the jacaranda tree. It is a shade-loving plant that grows well in forests, semi-shade and rocky areas. It attracts bees, butterflies and birds with its nectar and fragrance. It is also used as a traditional medicine for coughs, colds and wounds. The stoep jacaranda is easy to propagate from cuttings and makes a lovely container plant for a shady spot.
