The ribbon bush, Hypoestes aristata, is a fast-growing shrub with soft, hairy leaves and lilac pink or white flowers that bloom from May to early spring. It attracts bees, flies and insectivorous birds, and is eaten as spinach or used as a remedy for sore eyes in some areas. It also makes a good cut flower and can be easily propagated from seeds or cuttings. It grows well in dry thicket, forest and damp places, and needs regular watering in summer and pruning after flowering.
