Felicia aethiopica, or wild aster, is a compact, straggling shrub with bright blue flowers and a yellow centre that bloom all year round. It is native to southern Africa, where it grows in bushy places on the lower slopes of Table Mountain and the flats from the Cederberg to the Eastern Cape. It attracts many small flying insects, such as bees, butterflies and wasps, and produces large amounts of winged seeds that are dispersed by the wind. It is an attractive plant for rock gardens, mixed borders, containers and coastal gardens. It is easy to grow from seeds or cuttings, and prefers sandy loam soil with good drainage and full sun or semi-shade. It is also water-wise and can tolerate drought. It has no known traditional uses or benefits.
