Buddleja salviifolia, also known as sagewood, butterfly bush, or mountain sage, is a semi-evergreen bushy shrub that grows up to 4m high. It has dark green, wrinkled leaves and produces small, white to lilac blooms in large panicles. The flowers are sweetly scented and vary in color from dull to clear white to almost true purple. This plant attracts insects such as bees, butterflies, and birds. In a garden, it can be used as a framework or background plant, and when pruned often, it makes an excellent hedge. Sagewood is used traditionally as a remedy for cough and colic, and as an eye lotion when applied as an infusion of the leaves.
