Babiana rubrocyanea, commonly known as blue-and-red babiana, is a striking perennial plant native to the Western Cape. It grows to a height of 5–15 cm and is characterized by its lance-shaped, hairy, pleated leaves, and beautiful purplish blue flowers with a sharply defined carmine red center, blooming from August to mid-September. This species is adapted to survive dry and hot summers by shedding its leaves and stems, with the corms remaining dormant underground.
