Common names: coral aloe (English).
Botanical name: Aloe striata

Aloe striata, also known as Coral Aloe, is a stemless aloe with blue-green leaves and attractive coral-red flowers. It is widely distributed in the Eastern and South Western Cape provinces, growing in stony soils on rocky hillsides in arid areas near the coast and drier inland karoo areas. The plant provides nectar during winter, which is an important food source for sunbirds and other nectivorous birds. To cultivate Aloe striata, plant it in well-drained soil in full sun, providing adequate water but not over-watering. It can withstand extreme frost and prolonged drought. Propagation is from seed, which germinates easily in well-drained soil.
