Course Overview

Nature of Wounds – In the first section of this course we will explore the nature of wounds. We take look at what we mean by ‘wound’, and distinguish various types of wounds. We then learn a little about the structure and function of the skin, the largest organ of the body. The natural wound healing process is then discussed as well as some of the reasons healing may not occur.

Herbs & Wounds – Next we spend time with the plants that facilitate wound healing and are useful as first aid remedies. We explore their wound-healing qualities and how best to prepare them to optimise their beneficial effects. Lastly, we discuss the importance of healing strategies and how to best select, prepare and apply of herbal first-aid wound remedies.

Creating with Herbs – This section of the course is devoted to the preparation of your own first-aid herbal remedies. We look at a variety of recipes, materials and methods for each of the preparations so as you can get creative and tailor your creations to your own circumstances.

Healing with Herbs – The final section is all about applying what we have understood safely and effectively should the need arise. We look at a selection of minor wounds commonly seen in animals and discuss how best to facilitate healing with herbal first-aid remedies. For each condition we explore choosing a healing strategy, identifying the plant actions required, selecting and preparing the herbs appropriately, and how to apply the herbal first-aid remedy.
